About Us

The Yarn Barton Centre is a community information and learning centre started by the Town Council in 1998. It was subsequently transferred to a steering group, given charitable status and renamed "The Beaminster Community Learning Centre".

The function of the BCLC is to act as an information centre for the town - for jobs, activities and societies, and to provide opportunities for learning and training. The emphasis is placed on teaching computer skills, due to their growing importance and to the lack of local computing and internet training.

A regular range of courses is offered at the centre at all levels of competence and to all age groups. Should you need any specialised equipment, we have a range of appropriate software and hardware. The centre also has full access for wheelchair and buggy users.

Subjects include: Adult Numeracy & Literacy, Word Processing, Desk Top Publishing, Spreadsheets, Email and Internet, Web Design, File Management and Photoshop (Basic and Advanced). Click on the links above for Course information and schedules.

In addition to the courses above, the BCLC offers individual tuition to suit particular needs. The centre has a "drop-in" facility giving access to the Internet and Email. We can also provide a range of services including home visits to set up Broadband, basic fault fixing and in-home tuition. Many local residents and visitors are now taking full advantage of these facilities. Click on the link above for more information.

Currently there are a range of low cost courses available covering computing and many other skills. The BCLC is able to register students and provide tutorial support for many of these. For more information, enquire at the Centre.
